2. Get a home energy assessment
Find out where your home uses energy and how it can be improved
An assessment of your home's thermal performance (ie how heat enters and escapes from your home) and where your home uses energy is an important step in understanding how best to renovate/upgrade your home to deliver the benefits that matter most to you. We of course recommend a Scorecard assessment from one of our accredited Scorecard assessors if you are thinking about making improvements, renovating or selling/renting your home.
There are on-line home energy assessment and energy cost saving tools (calculators) that can be a good starting point if you want to do a "self-assessment" before jumping into a Scorecard assessment. We have listed some of these below for your convenience.
- RapidRate: CSIRO (coming soon ! - we'll provide the web link when it goes live)
- Understand your home efficiency: Home Efficiency Australia
- Home energy assessment App: Ecologic
- Solvingzero App: Solving Zero
- Solar Maximiser App: Solar Analytics
- Solar Savings Calculator: Sunspot

Our accredited Scorecard assessors can advise on government funding support available through various grants and subsidy schemes operating in your local area and relevant to your situation.
In addition, most Australian financial institutions offer discounted interest rate loans for home energy renovation projects that meet their specific green lending criteria. We encourage you to enquire with your existing home mortgage lender (if you have one) to explore the availability of favourable lending solutions for your situation.
There are a number of innovative businesses with on-line service offerings to facilitate streamlined access to affordable finance for home energy renovation projects. We have listed two of these below for your convenience.
We always recommend our clients obtain a minimum of three quotes from reputable and appropriately qualified / accredited businesses (see Step 4 above on how to identify if a business is appropriately qualified / accredited).
6. Monitoring and Optimisation
Find the right monitoring and optimisation solutions for your situation
Monitoring and optimising your energy efficient all-electric home to get the most benefit from your home renovation investments makes a lot of sense.
We have listed two innovative businesses providing home energy monitoring and optimisation solutions but we encourage you to not be limited by this list.
7. Re-rating your Home
Keep you Scorecard certificate current
As you progressively make energy efficiency improvements to your home we recommed you consider getting a Scorecard assessor to re-assess your property and provide you with an updated Scorecard certificate. This can be particularly valuable if you are planning on selling or renting your home as you can provide the updated Scorecard certificate to your selling/leasing agent along with the history of improvements you have made to your home.
Evidence shows buyers and renters will pay a premium for a superior energy efficient all-electric home. An official Scorecard certificate is the only nationally recognised authoratative evidence of an existing home's energy performance and star rating.
